I'm very close to the end of my time in grad school. It has been two and a half long, hard years and I'm ecstatic about it being over. They told me grad school would be challenging in my admissions interview, but I never imagined just how hard it could be! Folks, let me tell ya! ....It ain't easy!
I've had a lot of good times as a grad student. I met some great folks along the way and learned some valuable lessons about life. It has been a hard journey through the trenches and I'm coming out with scars and bulletholes.
Ever had to pay just to work for free? lol only in grad school...it's called an internship and you do this cause you're a grad student!
You're not quite a professional, but not quite a lowly undergraduate student either *sticks nose in the air* What are you? You're a grad student!
You hustle for your summer and Christmas breaks by selling back textbooks ..Cause after all you did have to purchase four per class. Why? Cause you're a grad student!
People wonder what's wrong with you because you call yourself going to "work" every day (and looking quite professional when you do), but you never have money and you have no benefits. Why does this happen? Cause you're a grad student working for free or for pennies (that's called a grad assistantship).
Grad school is a truly rewarding experience, so let's not forget that. There is so much to be learned throughout the journey. But I have to keep it real...there's no glitz and glamour, so leave your make up bags and good clothes back at home. ..what? I'm just sayin'!

We will live each day in spring time!
So I know I have neglected to update this blog as I intended, but here it is. I have just finished my second semester of school. Things are going well. I'm looking at a GPA of 3.6. I couldn't be happier with my academic success. However, I have been struggling with money since I'm an out of state student. Getting financial help is a little more difficult than I thought. I think it will all work out though. I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of job interviews/applications. It's a sucky process, but I must be patient.
Here's a very surprising update on my lovelife. I met an awesome young man while working on a project for school. It was totally unexpected. He pretty much claimed me from the day we met. As untrusting as I am with men, I decided to just let it be. I'm giving him a real shot. He makes me happy, but I don't get to see him as often as I'd like. I'm talking about a long distance relationship. I'm trying to manage being without him for long periods of time. I think this will all work out in time. Again, I must be patient.

So who has the best clothes?
I'm always in search of the best clothes I can find that not only fits me, but are stylish. It's very challenging to find a good store that sells clothes in my size and won't leave me completely broke. I try to catch sales as often as I can. Now that I live in rural Pennsylvania, it seems next to impossible!
I wish more stores would get a clue and add some plus sizes to their collections. Old Navy messed up by getting rid of their plus size clothes (in the store). I don't like shopping online because I want to try my clothes on before I purchase. Now you can't even return Old Navy online purchases to the stores! You have to ship them back and that's bullshit!
I love Lane Bryant's clothes, but their prices give me a headache! Why are they so overpriced? I can go to The Avenue and get five articles of clothing and probably won't be able to afford, but two pieces for the same price in LB. I haven't found the quality of their clothes to be any better than Avenue's, so what gives? I love Torrid, but those stores are so hard to find. There's one close to my hometown in Greensboro, but that's still a long drive from us. I like the unique look of Torrid's clothes. They're very colorful too. I like colors and sometimes I get disappointed with the lack of colors I see at plus size stores.
Also, no offense to anyone who wears a size 14, but I never understood why these stores like Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart, and Torrid even carry that size. Every time I go to the clearance rack or hell, ANY rack of these stores there are dozens of those sizes still left on the rack. Do they not realize most women who wear this size don't shop in plus size stores?? If I wore that size and had the choice of either shopping in Lane Bryant or...uh I dunno, (insert trendy "regular" size clothing store here), I wouldn't shop at LB. Why would I when their clothes are expensive as hell? That's so ridiculous! How about you guys add more of the bigger sizes or even extend the sizes so us Big Berthas can have something left on the clearance rack! lol Ggrrrrrr my rant is over!
I can't wait until I am able to shop at the little women stores. One day I'll get there..until then I have to deal with these jokerz. Big ups to these online sites for offering classy and trendy clothing in MY size!

Old Navy (just get rid of that stupid return policy)

The BBW Party Scene
Ok so I've been a big chick for most (ok I admit, all) of my life and I've always found attending BBW parties quite interesting. I started attending them back in 2003 in NC through my involvement in a yahoo group (remember dem?). It was funny though cause I would always stalk Babs' website to check out the latest BBW party pics. The parties I attended in NC didn't receive quite the following that Babs did. However, I did enjoy those parties in NC. So the next year I decided to attend my first Babs event called Summer Jam. I couldn't believe the atmosphere, it was crazy. Lots of big gals like myself, some dressed quite provocatively, all enjoying themselves in an atmosphere where they felt comfortable to just BE. I thought it was the coolest concept ever.
I immediately became addicted to these events and I would attend them on an annual basis. I didn't stop with Babs though. I also attended some parties in NYC (BBT) and Atlanta (Club 249). I really had a ball attending these events. I've met some great people along the way, many are still friends of mine. It was always my dream to maybe start a BBW org in my home state so that I wouldn't have to travel so far to these other events. I enjoy traveling, but it gets expensive after a while. Hence the reason I haven't been able to go to any events in a year. I'm a broke student now so I've had to put a halt on my traveling. I'm definitely hoping to get the chance to do it again this year though. I have high hopes this winter. I've gotta get my groove back! lol

Happy New Year everyone! Wow I haven't updated you all in a long time huh? Well, there isn't much to say here. lol I'm back at home in NC for probably another week and then I'm headed back to school. My first semester in grad school was a success! I made straight A's and I couldn't be more pleased. Well, I would be more pleased if I'd received an assistantship to pay for this tuition, but I won't complain. I hope y'all have a beautiful 2010!

It's a New Day!
Ok, so next weekend I'm going to be traveling to Pa. to start graduate school. It has been my goal to pursue my Masters degree for several years. I'm very excited, but also nervous. I desperately want everything to go smoothly. I don't really know what to expect for graduate school. I don't know how hard it's going to be. Are the papers harder to write? Are the professors more demanding? Is it harder to make an A? Will I like Pa as my new home? All of these questions are going through my mind, but I know I should stop overthinking and just do it! I remember feeling that way about a lot of new things in my life. Sometimes I would talk myself out of doing things just to regret it years later. So blogging will be my virtual pep-talk. You can do it, girl! Just keep your head to the skyyyyyyyy Be optimistic!
I needed to listen to this song! What a beautiful and inspiring message.
So when I arrive in Pa (probably Sunday), I'm going to check into a hotel and stay there for a week. I will use the first week of classes to look at apartments in the town. I have to be able to see where I'm staying for the next year. I'm just looking for a simple 1 bedroom or studio apartment. I don't need (and can't afford) anything fancy. I have a general idea of a few spots around the campus. I really don't want to have to sell my furniture off so it's important that I find a spot large enough to place it.
Labor Day weekend I'll return back to NC to get the rest of my stuff. Sounds like a plan? Thanks to everyone who have kept me in their prayers. I'm doing the same for you.
